Abstarct:   considering that many dams are built or under construction in area with high risk of earthquake, their safe design is of particular importance. Each structure, given its importance, creates specific design criteria. In the design of the dams, the dam's crown settlement, dam’s horizontal displacements and the maximum stress created in its various laxyers are considered as key design factors to measure the adequacy of materials and dimensions. The study examined the effects of earthquakes in far field and near field motions on dam performance in two cases: first with a horizontal component of acceleration and then with three components of acceleration. The results showed that near filed motions cause more displacements and settlements. On the one hand, the analysis under three components causes more horizontal displacement and the results are more in line with reality, but regarding the maximum stress observed around the foundation, the results show that one component accelerations and the three component accelerations were not very different.
